The current pandemic has ruined all of our plans and our life as we know it. Moreover, the pandemic is not an excuse for you to stop whatever it is you are doing, not filling your time with positive work and just lay on your bed all-day. Voluntary work can still be done. People around the world from California, Malaysia and so on are still doing voluntary work, an example that can be seen is when Malaysian did voluntary work for Marine solutions in Malaysia, during their hot lay up in Malaysia or cold lay up in Malaysia. This proves that the pandemic will not stop people on doing voluntary work. Examples of voluntary work that you can do during the pandemic are as follows:
On the Road Mask Patrol
In regards to the pandemic, masks are in high demand now, therefore, prices are rising, the stockpile is limited and people are hoarding masks as well. What you can do is to hit the road and hand out free masks for people in need. This action has been quite famous as people go to the streets, educate the importance of masks and hand them free masks. This is a very beneficial voluntary work for the people in your community because you help those that cannot afford a mask and you will help your neighborhood reduce the risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus.
Cooking Food and Share It
After sharing the masks for the people around you, handing them free food can also help them and ensure the safety of your neighborhood. Researchers have shown that after wearing a mask, a healthy diet is a must in order for humans to keep their fitness up and it will reduce the risk for you catching the virus. Moreover, as the pandemic struck the world, the economy was the second department that went shut. Therefore, people are being laid off and some of them do not have the money to buy nutritious food, By volunteering yourself as a ‘food provider’ the community will definitely react positively towards your actions.
‘Mask Monitor’ in Your Neighborhood
The police and government both have been trying their best to remind the people of the importance of wearing a mask. However, the people are neglecting the fact that they need to wear a mask. They feel as if both the government and police just want to find a way to ‘fine’ them. By being a ‘mask monitor’ in your neighborhood, you can make the environment near you a safer and Covid-19 free zone. A mask monitor does not mean you are a whistleblower. It is just a voluntary job of reminding people of the importance of doing all the safety protocols to avoid the Covid-19 virus (i.e. going around your neighborhood by using a car and using a P.A. system to remind the people around you).
Educate Others through the Internet
If you are an expert in a certain field (i.e. Yoga), you can help others by teaching them new things during the quarantine period. It is certain that during this period people are more bored than ever and they do not know what to do. You can teach them Yoga through online platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet or Skype. By doing so, quarantined individuals will have something to do and they can still keep their fitness up even if they are quarantined. Moreover, if you excel in educational fields such as science, math or many others, you can help the students that are currently struggling throughout the online studying period. They will have additional supplementary information that help
To conclude, there is a lot of volunteer work that you can do throughout the pandemic season. The pandemic is not an excuse for you to not contribute to the community. There are things you can do that can help your community. Keep your spirits up, voluntary work has been proven to reduce stress and increase your fitness throughout the pandemic. As long as you follow the government’s safety protocol and stay hygienic, you will not have anything to worry and you will not contribute yourselves to the growing Covid-19 clusters in your region.
