Small businesses fuel California’s growing economy. We have made progress with easy access to workplace benefits, retirement, health care and more. Now is the perfect time for Californians to champion sustainability.
California needs us. Around a quarter of the state is already in moderate drought right after the driest February and January on record. Heat waves, droughts, wildfires and air pollution all threaten our livelihood, health and our future.
Going green can help fight climate change. Let’s do our part. It can keep innovation, jobs and investments in California. It can even result in cost savings in water and energy bills.
California is the United State’s biggest economy. A portion of that economy includes 3.9 million small- to medium-sized businesses operating in the state. We employ more than 7 million residents. Going green is not the sole responsibility of any single industry. It’s all on us. Just by going green, California businesses can impact the cities we live in and communities we service.
The California Green Business Network is here to make our communities healthier. By championing a sustainable core business practice, we can minimize pollution, lessen energy and water use, and protect the public’s health.
Together, over 4,000 green Businesses that make up our group in California have helped yield environmental benefits. These benefits extend far beyond every individual venture to improve and enrich the lives of all Californians. We’ve lessened over 800,000 metric tons of gas emissions. That’s equivalent to planting more than 40,000 urban acres of trees each year for a decade. We have saved sufficient kilowatt-hours to power 25,000 homes for one whole year. We’re just getting started.
That’s the power of 4,000 green businesses. Just Imagine what we can accomplish when we all come together.
Tons of resources are already available. Your local energy provider may provide an evaluation of your energy use and help you determine more sustainable opportunities. You can explore Energy Upgrade California, an educational resource that offers ways to help take remarkable actions.
Our organization has the resources and funding to begin new programs in California’s new regions. Keep in mind that now is not the time to wait. Start now.
Lessen water use with auto-off faucets and low-flow toilets. Use a smart thermostat. Use a power strip. Upgrade your lighting system to save more energy.
