In late 2019, the world was shocked by the outbreak of COVID19 also known as Corona Virus Disease. For your information, the coronavirus was found in Wuhan China the late in December 2019. Many people were affected during the pandemic and some of them lost their job also this is one of the media highlights every day on the news and social media. Netizens also non stop sharing and commenting about how their life got affected during this pandemic. While other people busy with their life, homeless people also worrying about theirs. For those who not know, homeless mean people who are normally living on the street and not have a home. Homeless people normally consist of those got discarded by their families and insane people. They also human and they also need to be protected and we do not want them to get coronavirus plus it is better to prevention is better than cure.
In California, thank you to the government because they are really competent to handle the coronavirus cases and try their best to stop the COVID chain. Plus, the virus is really dangerous and it can harm our body and it can cause death. California’s government also helps folks and provides some money to them for the homeless people it also no exception for them and they also get some help from the government. During the pandemic, the government offers shelters for them because it is compulsory for each folk to stay inside the building and no one can stay out of their home without a solid reason. NGOs also play an important role and help the government to provide temporary placement and food 4 times a day. Homeless people also human and they also need shelter during this pandemic because it is quite hard to track them if they got the virus. Many of them have a low immune system and have health problems such as mental problems and it can easily lead them to get the virus.
There are examples from other countries who are great examples in helping the homeless too. California volunteers can take these as examples. The Malaysian government found an initiative to give the homeless people job to make sure they are more independent and can survive on their own. Government can’t afford to help them much more in the long term so they must help themselves. In Malaysia the DBKL cooperates with other agencies such as Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM), Jabatan Buruh, Jabatan Kesihatan, Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK), and Jabatan Imegresian to give their best to provide jobs for these homeless people. Other than that, about 360 homeless people went to the motivation center after Aidilfitri at Selangor and Pahang.
Other ways volunteers in California can help those who became homeless during the pandemic is to give the young ones free education. The homeless victims are not only adults but there are also children who have lost their homes and funds to continue their education. While doing this the volunteers can work together with a flat roofer to help build temporary schools that can be attended for free by the homeless children. The pandemic is a very difficult moment for so many people and we will all have to work together to help one another. it is simply not enough to sit behind our phone screens, reading the news. As volunteers we will be able to make the lives of so many people better.
The volunteers is California can also prepare simple home cooked meals for the homeless. Bringing them home cooked meals will help them feel motivated to keep going. Starvation by most likely be a cause as to why the homeless do not have enough will power and energy to go seek better lives. They are just simply too exhausted to keep moving forward with their hungry stomachs. Simple meals such as mac and cheese, chicken soup, harvest stew and mashed potatoes are more than enough to give them the nutrition they need. Canned meals and instant food do not have enough nutritional value to keep them going for a long time. Volunteers can take turns among each other to prepare these meals and pass them over to homeless shelters.
