The Governor and First Lady’s Medals for Service, graciously sponsored by the Shinnyo-en Foudnation, recognizes individual volunteers, business volunteer programs and nonprofits whose innovation in the field of volunteerism has had a tangible impact on their community, region and the state of California. The high-profile, statewide recognition program serves as an opportunity to inspire all Californians to serve their communities.
This year, California received more than 155 nominations in six different categories, including: California Volunteer of the Year, California’s Nonprofit of the Year, California’s Service Group of the Year, California’s AmeriCorps Member of the Year, California’s Business Volunteer Program of the Year and California’s Small Business Volunteer Program of the Year.

The Governor and First Lady’s Service Award program, graciously sponsored by the Shinnyo-en Foundation, provides recognition to Californians who complete a minimum number of service hours within a 12-month period (50 hours of service for adults and 25 hours for youth ages 5-14). In addition, award recipients are encouraged to continue serving towards the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The Governor and First Lady’s Service Award program administered by CaliforniaVolunteers has been temporarily put on hold to accommodate the recent transition in administration. Please check back on this site for any updates.
