Volunteering in California
Overview
California’s volunteers are a critical resource towards tackling our state’s most pressing challenges and have a positive multi-billion dollar impact on the state’s economy. In 2007, 6.3 million volunteers dedicated 877.9 million hours of service valued at more than $17 billion to the California economy.
Volunteer Management Resources
Looking for creative ways to engage volunteers more effectively to achieve your mission? CaliforniaVolunteers conducted comprehensive research to indentify relevant local and online volunteer management training available to nonprofits and public agencies across California.
Surviving and Thriving During Tough Times
In April 2009, CaliforniaVolunteers, in partnership with Bank of America, Taproot Foundation, and over 30 local organizations, hosted a series of six conferences across the state, providing key training to over 1,000 nonprofit leaders.
Governor’s Mentoring Partnership
The Governor's Mentoring Partnership was created to provide continuing support for California's youth through mentoring. Statistics show that children with mentors demonstrate solid improvements, especially in the areas of academic performance and are less likely to be involved with gangs, violence, teen pregnancy, alcohol and drug use.
California Volunteer Matching Network
The California Volunteer Matching Network connects Californians to meaningful, high-impact volunteer opportunities in their communities through a dynamic online volunteer matching system.
CaliforniaVolunteers and its local partners also help nonprofits and public agencies throughout the state find the volunteers they need.
Volunteer Recognition
Volunteer recognition is a great way to thank your volunteers for a job well done or to encourage individuals to volunteer.

Business Partners Program
In September 2009, CaliforniaVolunteers will launch the state’s first Business Advisory Council focusing on employee volunteering and service to communities. The Business Advisory Council is a cornerstone of CaliforniaVolunteers’ new Business Partners Program, and will serve to inform CaliforniaVolunteers’ efforts to increase and strengthen business volunteering across the state in collaboration with local, regional and national leaders.
