Organization that has met the training and technical assistance (TA) needs of public and nonprofit organizations in California and across the nation. As a training and TA organization, CARS staff and consultants have focused our technical assistance and training in five broad areas: alcohol and other drug prevention; evaluation; volunteerism and nonprofit organizational development; mentoring; and public management and supervision.

Founded in 1979, Friends for Youth's Mentoring Services program has had success far beyond the national average in helping young people stay out of trouble.   Studies have consistently shown that youth in our program stay in school, improve their school performance, are more motivated, and rarely have future involvement with the Juvenile Justice System.

For more than 20 years, MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) has been the lead champion for youth mentoring in the United States. MENTOR helps children by providing a public voice, developing and delivering resources to mentoring programs nationwide and promoting quality for mentoring through standards, cutting-edge research and state of the art tools.

Public/Private Ventures (P/PV) is a national leader in developing and testing programs that improve lives in low-income communities. P/PV is composed of research, policy and program development experts who specialize in education, employment, prisoner reentry, juvenile justice, public health, youth development and more. Over the years, P/PV has significantly contributed to the research on mentoring.

The Resource Center, administered by ETR Associates, is the knowledge management training and technical assistance provider to the Corporation for National and Community Service. It connects service programs with targeted training and information. The Resource Center is the national service hub for: Sharing training and technical assistance information among the Corporation's programs: Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, and Learn and Serve America.
