Cesar Chavez Day Overview
CaliforniaVolunteers administers the Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning program which works to engage California’s youth in service and civic participation while learning about Chavez’ life and legacy.
Volunteers Build a Playground
This year, CaliforniaVolunteers, in partnership with national nonprofit KaBOOM!, will build 7 new playspaces in 7 different communities across the state to celebrate the life and legacy of Cesar E. Chavez. In 2007 and 2008, CaliforniaVolunteers constructed 20 playspaces across California.

Afterschool Service Clubs
In partnership with with Youth Service California, CaliforniaVolunteers supports afterschool service clubs in Title I middle schools.
In 2007, CaliforniaVolunteers awarded more than $2 million in grants to establish and maintain 77 afterschool service clubs across California.
