About Us
Overview
CaliforniaVolunteers is the state office that manages programs and initiatives aimed at increasing the number of Californians engaged in service and volunteering.
Innovations
CaliforniaVolunteers is proud to showcase some of its most innovative programs and initiatives. Our hope is that we can continue to share best practices and resources, and collaborate with various partners on new ideas that will continue to push the service and volunteering movement forward! Some programs and initiatives have already launched, some are in the development phase and some have already proven very successful. Whatever the state of the program, we are confident that it will provide you with a unique insight into our programs and offer you perspective on our key program findings and lessons learned.
Secretary and Staff
CaliforniaVolunteers is led by the nation’s first state cabinet secretary for service and volunteering, Karen Baker. The office is comprised of five departments: AmeriCorps Programs, Disaster Volunteering and Preparedness, Volunteer Action, External Affairs and Finance and Administration.
Employment Opportunities
CaliforniaVolunteers occasionally posts and publicizes open employment opportunities at our agency. This section is updated as employment opportunities become available.
Commission
CaliforniaVolunteers is overseen by a 25-member Commission appointed by the Governor.
First Lady Maria Shriver, Honorary Chair
"I have always believed that one of California’s greatest resources is the diversity of people who call the Golden State home. No matter your age, no matter what country or state you were born in, if you live here, you’re a Californian.
I am asking all Californians to strengthen our great state by connecting with their families, their neighbors, and their communities through service. Serving others is as easy as dishing out food in a kitchen line, donating blood, planting a school garden, reading to a child, or educating families about important programs that can empower their lives and help break cycles of poverty. By sharing the resource of your time, you can empower other Californians through service, and get connected to the state’s wealth of diverse communities and people."
