Celebrate AmeriCorps Week, May 11-18, 2008

What is AmeriCorps Week?

AmeriCorps Week is a recruitment and recognition event designed to bring more Americans into service, salute AmeriCorps members and alums for their powerful impact, and thank the community partners who make AmeriCorps possible.

AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity for AmeriCorps members, alums, grantees, program partners, and friends to shine a spotlight on the work done by members in communities across the country—and to motivate more Americans to join AmeriCorps or volunteer in their communities.

Thank you AmeriCorps members!

As you prepare to celebrate the second annual AmeriCorps Week, I want to take the opportunity to thank each and every AmeriCorps member for their commitment to "Getting Things Done" for America and our great state. Committing a year of service to others is no small endeavor and you should be proud of your achievement.

No matter what critical needs you have worked to address - education, public safety, health or the environment - you have strengthened our great state and improved the lives of those around you.

As your year of service comes to a close and you look for new opportunities and challenges, I encourage you to visit CaliforniaVolunteers.org to find ways you can continue to support your community and our state. At CaliforniaVolunteers.org, individuals and families can search for volunteer opportunities throughout the state that match their interests. Today, there are over 40,000 volunteer opportunities available throughout California involving the arts, education, animals, disaster preparedness, the environment and other areas of interest.

Again, thank you for your dedication to improving our state and the lives of those around you. You are truly an inspiration to all.

-Karen Baker, Secretary of Service and Volunteering
